Sampoerna Academy opened a new operation in Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD), South Tangerang, Banten, on 8 September 2018. The new campus is located on Jalan Raya Serpong BSD Lot II-2, Serpong. Built in 6,300 square meters of land, it will enable Sampoerna Academy to continue to deliver its proven education system by offering Playgroup, Kindergarten, Elementary School (Grade 1-6) and Middle School (Grade 7). It will develop into a full campus in later years. This is the fourth location of Sampoerna Academy after L’Avenue (Pancoran, South Jakarta), Cipto and CitraGarden (Medan), and Sentul campus.
New Campus in BSD
Director of Sampoerna Academy Dr. Mustafa Guvercin spoke,”We are welcoming the opening of our new campus in BSD. We offer an international education that is grounded in Indonesian moral and cultural values.” Aside from applying a student-centered educational foundation approach, Sampoerna Academy also gives a strong emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) to educate students to be confident, contributing, global citizens with a strong sense of purpose in life, he further added.
At the inauguration, a talkshow focusing on Arts was also held to inform audience why arts is integrated in the previous STEM method. It is proven to be of great assistance as children develop mentally, socially, and emotionally. “Arts education may have immense benefits for children’s development as it can greatly impact positively children’s cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development,” told child psychologist Jovita Maria Ferliana.
Singer Gisella Anastasia also shared her experience as the mother of Gempita Marten (a student of Sampoerna Academy). She said she was glad to get Gempi to attend Sampoerna Academy. “As the school offers a supportive environment, and facilities to make learning processes enjoyable, I can see my daughter is developing into an independent and sociable child, with courage to learn,” the celebrity mom remarked.
Along with them on stage were Beatrice da Roza (principal of Sampoerna Academy BSD) and Erwin Bryan Utchanah (IBDP Coordinator of Sampoerna Academy) who also spoke of the significance of arts as part of education methods at Sampoerna Academy in general.
