CAMBRIDGE and IB DIPLOMA PROGRAM (For Jakarta & Medan Campus)
About Cambridge & IBDP
In Grade 11, our students have the option to study the Cambridge Advanced Levels or IB (The International Baccalaureate) Diploma Program. Graduating from Sampoerna Academy will allow the students to study in Indonesia or abroad.
We are an authorized International Baccalaureate school to offer an IB Diploma Program. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is essential for our students.
Cambridge Assessment International Education.
Our High School students take Cambridge IGCSE curricula from Grade 9 and sit for the exams in Grade 10. We also offer a fast-track option of one year, completing and sitting for the IGCSE exams in Grade 10.
In Grades 11 and 12, the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level, or A Level, is the ‘gold standard’ of Cambridge qualifications. It is accepted as an entry qualification by universities all over the world.
A-Levels are highly specialized, and a student will generally take three subjects, although occasionally exceptional students take four or five.
IB Diploma Program
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program provides an internationally accepted qualification for entry into higher education and is recognized by many universities worldwide.
- IB Schools produce critical thinkers, problem solvers, and effective communicators with strong writing skills.
- IB Diploma is one of the most rigorous academic programs due to its breadth and depth of learning.
- The Program gives students the opportunity to earn university credits while still in high school.
The DP curriculum
The curriculum is made up of the DP core and six subject groups.
Made up of the three required components, the DP core aims to broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.
The three core elements are:- Theory of knowledge, in which students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how we know what we claim to know.
- The extended essay, which is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper.
- Creativity, activity, service, in which students complete a project related to those three concepts.
The six subject groups and Subjects offered at Sampoerna Academy:
- Studies in language and literature: English A and Indonesian A
- Language acquisition: English B, Indonesian B/Ab initio, Mandarin B/ Ab initio
- Individuals and societies: Economics, Business Management, Psychology, Environmental System and Societies
- Sciences: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Environmental System and Societies
- Mathematics: Application and Interpretation, Analysis and Approaches
- The arts: Visual Art
Choosing subjects in the Diploma Programme
Students choose courses from the following subject groups: studies in language and literature; language acquisition; individuals and societies; sciences; mathematics; and the arts.
Students may opt to study an additional sciences, individuals and societies, or languages course, instead of a course in the arts.
Students will take some subjects at a higher level (HL) and some at standard level (SL). HL and SL courses differ in scope but are measured according to the same grade descriptors, with students expected to demonstrate a greater body of knowledge, understanding and skills at a higher level.
Each student takes at least three (but not more than four) subjects at a higher level, and the remaining at standard level.
Standard level subjects take up 150 teaching hours. The higher level comprises 240 teaching hours. The IB Learner’s Profile
IB Diploma Programme is committed to the development of students according to the IB learner profile.
The profile aims to develop learners who are:- Inquirers
- Knowledgeable
- Thinkers
- Communicators
- Principled
- Open-minded
- Caring
- Risk-takers
- Balanced
- Reflective

The A-Level accreditation does not preclude students from shifting courses and opting to enter the American stream. Students may still take American college entrance exams, such as the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), at any time during the course of taking one’s A-Level and enter the American Stream leading to an American Bachelor’s Degree.
