World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) Tournament of Champions is a highly respected global academic competition that is held every year in Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, USA. Centered around this year’s theme, “Reimagining the Present,” this tournament brings together the top scholars from over 50 countries who have qualified from the global rounds, such as Bangkok. WSC Bangkok Global Round featured a range of academic competitions, including the Debate Showcase, Scavenger Hunt, and the Scholar’s Bowl & Show.
Adding to last year’s success, Sampoerna Academy students secured two trophies, 46 gold medals, and 74 silver medals in the WSC global round this year, and also all participants, both in Junior and Senior teams, moved into the next round qualification which will be held at Yale University. We learnt many new things and had to work hard together. Even when participating in this competition, I was nervous yet proud that I could represent my own school and meet with other participants from many countries. This experience made me more confident and motivated to keep learning and working hard for the best.”
Celebrity couple, Donna Agnesia and Darius Sinathrya, also shared their excitement after their daughter, Queenesia Sabrina Sinathrya from Sampoerna Academy BSD, successfully secured several medals. “As parents, we are so proud to see Sabrina achieved two golds and three silvers in the WSC 2024 Bangkok Global Round, and also continuing to the next qualification in Yale this November. Watching her hard work and dedication during preparation days, we were touched that all of them finally paid off. We are so thankful for Sampoerna Academy’s support that always motivates students to achieve their best potential.”
These impressive achievements reflect the strength of Sampoerna Academy’s STEAM-focused curriculum. The rigorous academic program, coupled with its emphasis on extracurricular activities and global citizenship, have equipped students to thrive in an increasingly interconnected and technology-driven world. These skills allow Sampoerna Academy’s students to excel in the most competitive international competitions.
“Aligning with the 5Cs (Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Character) competence, we hope competitions like this can help students sharpen their critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, preparing them to be future leaders who are ready to face global challenges in the 21st century,” said Mustafa.
